It’s recruiting time for the McNair Scholars Program!
Applications for our new cohort are due on November 2, 2015. Here is a link to our online application: http://www.nmu.edu/mcnairscholars/apply-be-mcnair-scholar.
The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program is designed to prepare participants for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. McNair Scholars are from disadvantaged backgrounds and have demonstrated strong academic potential.
The McNair Scholars Program works closely with students in completing their undergraduate requirements, encouraging and supporting their entrance into graduate programs, and tracking their progress to successful completion of advanced degrees. The goal of McNair is to increase the attainment of Ph.D. degrees by students from underrepresented segments of society.
McNair Scholars are afforded a lot of opportunities which are not available to most NMU students, including:
- Faculty-guided research internship with stipend and housing allowance
- Graduate school prep workshops
- One-on-one professional and academic counseling
- Travel to regional and national conferences
- Travel for graduate school campus visits
- GRE prep (including a reduced test fee rate!)
- Graduate school application fee waivers
- Cultural and social events
If you or someone you know would be interested in applying to be a McNair Scholar, please consider attending one of our recruiting open houses. They are both scheduled between 12 and 2 in room 2806 West Science. The first is on Thursday, October 1st, and the second is on Monday, October 19th. McNair staff will be on hand to answer any questions you might have about the program, your eligibility, and the application process.
